Two River Little League (TRLL) All-Star Information
What Are All-Stars?
The TRLL All-Star teams represent our league in local, state, regional, and national tournaments following the spring season. Our teams compete in the Little League World Series (LLWS) tournament run by Little League International – yes, the one on ESPN. Teams are formed for ages 9U through 12U (East & West).
This is considered the highest level of baseball & softball at 9U through 12U!
What is the Little League World Series?
The Little League World Series (LLWS) is the most prestigious baseball & softball tournament in the world for players aged 10 to 12 years old. It’s the championship of the Little League Baseball & Softball program and brings together the best youth teams from across the United States and around the globe to compete in Williamsport, Pennsylvania every August.
This tournament is the culmination of months of play at local, district, state, and regional levels. It’s about more than just baseball & softball — it’s about teamwork, sportsmanship, and lifelong memories.
How the Tournament Works
- Local League Regular Season: Players begin in their local league. At the end of the season, coaches form All-Star teams based on skill, attitude, and commitment.
- District Tournaments: All-Star teams first compete in their district. Winners move on to the next round.
- Section & State Tournaments: District winners advance to sectional and state-level play. Competition gets tougher at each level.
- Regional Tournaments: U.S. teams (10 regions) and international teams (10 regions) compete for a spot in the LLWS.
- LLWS in Williamsport: The final 20 teams — 10 U.S., 10 international — compete in a double-elimination tournament. U.S. and International champions face off in the final game.
LLWS Highlights

Tryout & Evaluation Process
The Two River Little League (TRLL) All-Star selection process is designed to be fair, consistent, and transparent, ensuring that every player is evaluated on their skills, effort, and overall performance.
Nominations & Eligibility
Toward the end of the regular season, players are nominated for All-Star tryouts by their peers and coaches based on sportsmanship, skill, and dedication to the game.
Tryouts are scheduled by division and will be run by independent evaluators and league representatives.
Attendance at the tryout is mandatory for any player wishing to be considered for an All-Star roster spot.
Tryout Overview
The All-Star tryouts take place over two days, giving players multiple opportunities to demonstrate their abilities in a variety of drills and game-like situations. Tryouts are conducted by potential coaches and TRLL board members, with oversight from at least one independent evaluator to ensure fairness and objectivity.
Evaluation Areas
Players are evaluated across several key categories, including:
- Infield Fielding – hands, footwork, and accuracy on throws
- Throwing – arm strength, accuracy, and mechanics
- Outfield Fielding – tracking, catching, and positioning
- Speed – running mechanics and overall quickness
- Hitting – swing technique, contact ability, and power
- Baseball/Softball IQ and Hustle – awareness, attitude, and effort
Each evaluator scores players based on performance in these areas using a board-approved format. While evaluators have discretion in how they conduct the drills, all tryouts follow the same structure to maintain consistency across age groups.
Pitchers, Catchers, and Special Considerations
Pitchers, catchers, and other specialized positions are assessed only after the two-day evaluation process is complete. Once all players are ranked based on their scores, these additional roles are considered to help balance the final team roster.
Team Selection Process
After evaluations are completed:
- Players are ranked according to their total scores.
- Automatic Selections: Players with scores above a designated threshold (More than three-quarters of the team) are guaranteed a roster spot on the All-Star team.
- Coach Selections: Once the automatic selections are determined, the TRLL Board appoints the official All-Star coaching staff. Coaches may then select up to four additional players based on evaluator notes, positional needs, and team balance.
This process ensures that every All-Star team represents both the most deserving players and a complete, well-rounded roster ready to compete at the highest level.
Costs
There will be a uniform/tournament fee for families. We do our best to minimize costs while ensuring quality uniforms and tournament registration.
Tournament Eligibility & Expectations
Players are eligible for Tournament Play if they meet Little League’s Residency and School Attendance Player Eligibility Requirements. In all divisions, players must participate in at least eight (8) regular-season games before the start of tournament play to be eligible.
Under Tournament Rule 9, all teams must use a continuous batting order that includes all players present. Players may be subbed in or out defensively at any time, but every player must bat in the listed order. Managers are responsible for meeting playing time requirements (except in the Senior Division, where no such requirement exists).
All-Stars is a privilege and a team-first experience.
Important Note for Parents: Tournament Play is a significant commitment. If your child has known summer conflicts (vacations, camps, etc.), you may want to reconsider their nomination to ensure another player has the opportunity to participate fully.
All-Stars is a privilege and a team-first experience.
Determining Your Player’s League Age
Your child’s league age determines which division they’ll play in for the upcoming All-Stars. League age is established by Little League Baseball® and Little League Softball®, and the cutoff dates differ between the two programs:
- Baseball: A player’s league age is their age on August 31 of the current year.
- Softball: A player’s league age is their age on December 31 of the previous year.
These nationally standardized dates ensure players are placed in the correct division across all Little Leagues. TRLL cannot provide any exemptions!
