Two River Little Leauge (TRLL) Code of Conduct

Managers & Coaches

As a manager or coach for Two River Little League (TRLL), I agree to:

Contribute positively to TRLL. I will act as a positive, supportive, and caring leader. My goal is to use baseball to teach valuable lessons in teamwork, perseverance, and sportsmanship to every player I coach.

Respect all players. I will ensure that any feedback I give is constructive and paired with positive reinforcement. I recognize that every player contributes to the team and deserves to be treated fairly and respectfully, in full accordance with TRLL rules and values.

Respect all families. I understand the commitment that families make to support their child’s participation in baseball. I will communicate clearly and consistently with families to foster a supportive and united team environment. I will hold a team meeting before the season begins to outline expectations, which will be provided in writing to all families.

Follow the rules as written. I will read and fully understand the rules for my division prior to the start of the season. If any part of the rules is unclear, I will seek clarification before play begins. I will not manipulate or bend rules to gain an unfair advantage.

Resolve issues through proper channels. I understand that I am supported by TRLL Board of Directors and fellow volunteer Coaches. If disputes or concerns arise, I will address them professionally with the appropriate individuals—coaches, players, parents, the Coaching Coordinator, or the TRLL Board—and respect the outcomes reached through those discussions.

Demonstrate good sportsmanship. I recognize that young players are observant and often model their behavior after adults. I will lead by example by treating players, families, opponents, umpires, and fans with respect at all times. I will also take care of fields, facilities, and equipment as a steward of the TRLL community.

Players

As a player for Two River Little League (TRLL), I agree to:

Be proud to be a part of TRLL— and have fun playing the game I love!

Respect my coaches and team staff. Coaches and team staff are volunteers who generously give their time to help us learn and grow. I will show appreciation for their efforts through my attitude and actions on and off the field. I will listen to their guidance and follow team rules.

Respect my teammates and opponents. I will support my teammates and treat all players with kindness. I will not insult, criticize, or speak negatively about others. Positive teamwork and respect for all players are core TRLL values.

Handle conflicts peacefully. I will never use physical threats or actions to resolve a situation. Fighting or aggressive behavior is strictly prohibited and will result in immediate review by league leadership.

Demonstrate good sportsmanship. As a TRLL player, I represent my team, my league, and my community. I will compete with intensity and fairness, and I will never engage in unsportsmanlike behavior.

Give my best effort. I understand that my commitment and effort help my team succeed. I will give 100% at practices and games and contribute positively to the TRLL experience.

Parents/Families

As a parent of a player in Two River Little League (TRLL), I agree to:

Appreciate the mission of TRLL. The goal of Two River Little League is to provide a safe, fun, and educational baseball experience for all players. I will trust the process, enjoy the journey, and help ensure that baseball remains a fun and memorable part of my child’s life.

Respect the coaches and their staff. TRLL coaches are volunteers who dedicate their time and knowledge to help players grow. I will show appreciation for their efforts by ensuring my child attends practices and games on time and is picked up promptly when they are over. I understand that positive parent support is essential to attracting and retaining dedicated volunteers.

Respect all players. Every player is an important part of their team and deserves encouragement. I will not insult, criticize, or speak negatively about any player. This behavior undermines team spirit and will not be tolerated.

Follow the appropriate channels for resolving concerns. TRLL values open communication and is committed to addressing any issues that may arise. If I have a concern, I will speak with my child’s coach, the league director, or a member of the TRLL Board, rather than airing grievances publicly. I understand that TRLL leadership is approachable and here to help.

Model good sportsmanship. I recognize that youth baseball is about learning and having fun. I will support all players with encouragement and positivity, regardless of outcomes.

Get involved. I will support TRLL by volunteering where I can and contributing to the success of the league as a positive and engaged parent.

Conduct Towards Umpires

TRLL Manager & Coach Code of Conduct: Umpire Interactions

This policy is in addition to the general TRLL Code of Conduct for all managers and coaches. It specifically outlines expectations for how team staff interact with umpires. Two River Little League (TRLL), in partnership with the Mid Jersey Umpires Association (MJUA), enforces a zero-tolerance policy regarding inappropriate conduct toward game officials.

Conduct Guidelines

  • Only the team manager may engage in discussions with the umpires. Assistant coaches, players, and spectators are not permitted to speak with or question umpires at any time.
  • If a manager wishes to discuss a ruling, both umpires and both team managers must be present for the conversation. No manager is allowed to speak to an umpire alone.
  • Verbal or physical abuse directed at any umpire is strictly prohibited.
  • Judgment calls are not subject to dispute. This includes (but is not limited to) balls and strikes, safe/out, catch/no catch, fair/foul, runner leaving early, obstruction/interference, and sliding rule violations.
  • If a manager believes that an umpire has misapplied a baseball rule (e.g., invoking a rule that does not apply at the given level of play), the following process must be followed:
    1. The manager may request a timeout after the conclusion of the play and before the next pitch.
    2. If granted, the manager, opposing manager, and both umpires will confer briefly behind home plate.
    3. The manager may respectfully explain the perceived rule misapplication.
    4. After the explanation, both managers will return to their dugouts, and the umpires will privately confer and issue a final decision.
  • Comments about umpire decisions, including indirect remarks such as “That wasn’t a strike,” are not permitted from any player, coach, or manager.
  • Managers are responsible for the behavior of their entire team, including coaches, players, and spectators.

Consequences for Infractions

Violations of this policy will result in the following disciplinary actions:

  • First Offense: A verbal and written/email warning will be issued by the TRLL Elected Board, with details of the infraction.
  • Second Offense: The offending individual will be suspended for one game.
  • Third Offense: The offending individual will be removed from their role as manager or coach for the remainder of the season.

Note: Repeated or serious violations may also impact eligibility for future coaching or managerial roles within TRLL.

Umpires (MJUA)

Two River Little League Umpire Code of Conduct (with MJUA)

This Code of Conduct applies to all umpires officiating Two River Little League (TRLL) games at the Rookie (9U) and Above for Baseball and Minors and Above for Softball, including those contracted through the Mid Jersey Umpires Association (MJUA). All umpires are expected to read, understand, and adhere to the following standards.

Expectations

Umpires must remain on the field after the game until both teams have completed the post-game handshake.

Umpires must arrive at the field at least 15 minutes before the scheduled game time.

Umpires must wear the full TRLL-approved uniform, which includes a shirt, pants or shorts, and a hat (required for base umpires).

Umpires must bring a clicker to every game.

If an umpire is unable to officiate a scheduled game, a minimum of 24 hours’ notice must be given to the TRLL Umpire Coordinator. Exceptions may be made for legitimate emergencies.

Umpires will treat all managers, coaches, players, families, and fellow officials with professionalism and respect at all times.
